Riders headed to Mesa MX on June 1st for the final race of the 2014 FL/GA Spring Championship! This race would surely be a good one, with riders in several classes coming to the final round of the series separated by only ONE point! Who would win the Championship?
The skies looked ominous at times, but the weather cooperated and the races went off successfully. 50cc 7-9 class racers Ryder Gwynn (KTM #5) and Chase Matott (KTM #57) came to Mesa MX only one point apart in the series points. Each would ride well at Mesa, although it would be Michael Derico (COB #818) who would take the race win. The win would put Derico on the podium for the race victory, and again for the third place series finish. Ryder Gwynn leaves Mesa with the grand prize though, as his second place race finish gives him the series championship! Finishing the Mesa race in third place, Chase Matott secured a second place series finish.
The Plus 40, Open Am, and Vet C classes also had riders only one or two points apart in the the battle for the championship win. The much anticipated Vet C class battle between FDR/The Moto Stop backed riders Garrett Cannon (HON #823) and Robert Bryntesen (SUZ #724), would end with Cannon winning both motos, the race, and the championship! Garrett Cannon, Robert Bryntesen, and Karl "Pops" Friebel, would finish both the race and the series in first, second, and third place respectively.

The Plus 40 class was won by Barry Mccarty (KTM #27), followed by William Field (HON #125) and Daryl Thiel (YAM #741). Field and Thiel would end the series tied in points. According to FGSC rules, the series winner was determined by selecting the rider with the most race wins, giving the championship to William Field.
The points battle in the Open Am class ended with Brian Castleberry (KAW #42) winning both motos and the championship. Joe Caliendo (YAM #814) and Jason Beck (KTM #346) finished second and third respectively in both the race and the series overall.
Riders and spectators were treated to an appearance from 2008 CRMC Ladies Pro Champion Jacqueline Ross, who got a great holeshot, pulled away from the competition, and easily took the win. Jacqueline also teaches motocross classes at Mesa MX. Look for more information about the classes at Mesa MX on their website (www.mesamx.com). Pro supercross/motocross rider Kyle Goerke was also out at Mesa MX to support his Goerke MX School riders who were racing. The Goerke MX School riders showed off the skills they've learned at the school, and left Mesa with some great trophies! You can learn more about Goerke MX School at www.goerkemxschool.com.
